Mir 19 Flight Engineer Nikolai M. Budarin hitches a ride with STS-71 Pilot Charles J. Precourt in a T-38. Budarin, Precourt and the
rest of the STS-71 crew arrived at KSC's Shuttle Landing Facility the same day the countdown clock began ticking toward a scheduled liftoff on Friday, June 23. During the historic flight of the Space Shuttle Atlantis on STS-71, the crew will perform the first U.S. docking with the Russian Space Station Mir. Budarin and Mir 19 Mission Commander Anatoly Solovyev will transfer to Mir during the flight, and the three crew members currently on Mir will return to Earth in the orbiter.
