Wearing a training version of the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) space suit, astronaut Jerome (Jay) Apt prepares to don a helmet prior to being submerged in a 25 feet deep pool. The pool is in the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WET-F) and is commonly used for preparing astronauts with steps to take during both planned and contingency space walks or sessions of Extravehicular Activity (EVA). Apt's rehearsed EVA was of the contingency nature, since there are no scheduled space walks for the STS-79 mission.
