Suspended in full parachute gear, astronaut William F. Readdy, participates in emergency bailout training at the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WET-F). The mission commander was joined in this exercise by astronauts Terrence W. Wilcutt, pilot, and Jerome (Jay) Apt, mission specialist, with the other crew members having completed the training session earlier in the week. The exercises included a simulated drop from the Space Shuttle using its long escape pole, deployment of a life raft and signaling of rescue help.
