STS-35 Mission Specialist (MS) John M. Lounge, wearing headset, uses Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment (SAREX) equipment on the middeck of Columbia, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 102, to communicate with family members. SAREX allowed the Astronomy Laboratory 1 (ASTRO-1) crewmembers to briefly share some of their inspace experiences with family members. The interface module, packet module, and the payload and general support computer (laptop) are secured on the sleep station located on the middeck starboard side.
