The Wake Shield Facility 1 (WSF 1) on the end of the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) arm carried by the Orbiter Discovery during STS-60. The WSF is a small free-flying satellite that has been designed to create an ultrapure vacuum in which investigators will attempt to produce innovative crystalline thin-film semiconductors for next-generation electronics as the saucer-shaped free flyer orbits the Earth.
