Apollo 14 Mission Commander Alan B. Shepard, Jr., pauses on steps of the lunar module simulator at the Kennedy Space Center today prior to training exercise with Edgar d. Mitchell. Shepard and Mitchell will explore the Moon s hilly upland region north of the Fra Mauro crater during a planned stay of 33 hours. Roosa will pilot the command module in lunar orbit, monitoring onboard systems and conducting photographic exercises until Shepard and Mitchell rejoin him for the return trip to Earth.
