STS-78 Payload Commander Susan Helms breathes into the Astronaut Lung Function Experiment (ALFE) Bag-In-Box located in Rack 10 of the Spacelab module during Life and Microgravity Sciences (LMS-1) mission. Helms wears a wired vest called a respiratory inductance plethysmograph (RIP) to measure rib cage and chest motion. The Bag-In-Box measures inspired and expired oxygen flow and volume.
