George W. S. Abbey, director of flight operations at the Johnson Space Center (JSC), greets him at the bottom of the steps. Astronaut Robert L. Crippen, STS-1 pilot, is still inside Columbia. Dr. Craig L. Fischer, chief of the medical operations branch in the medical sciences division at JSC, ingresses the spacecraft at top of stairs.
