Young (near center of photo), STS-1 commander, egresses the space shuttle Columbia upon the completion of checklist activities following the successful landing of the spacecraft used on STS-1 space mission. George W. S. Abbey, director of flight operations at the Johnson Space Center (JSC), greets him at the bottom of the steps. Astronaut Robert L. Crippen, STS-1 pilot, is still inside Columbia. Dr. Craig L. Fischer, chief of the medical operations branch in the medical sciences division at JSC, ingresses the spacecraft at top of stairs.
