Thagard and the two Russian cosmonauts spent more than three months together as crew mates aboard the Mir space station, and returned to Earth earlier today aboard the orbiter Atlantis, concluding Space Shuttle Mission STS-71. The ice cream treats were given to the crew in response to a hankering expressed by Thagard during an on-orbit interview, when he said one of his post-flight priorities would be to enjoy some typical American food like hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream.
