TDRS 8 (formerly TDRS H), a communications satellite, launched on an Atlas IIA carrier rocket on June 30, 2006 from Cape Canaveral. The satellite was part of the TDRS project to provide continuous communications to NASA's low earth-orbiting missions. The satellites also helped improve the amount of data the could be received. TDRS 8 is still in service and is currently located above the Indian Ocean.
