During STS-54, with Endeavour's, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 105's, reaction control system (RCS) thrusters inhibited, the pyrotechnic separation device physically separates the inertial upper stage (IUS) / Tracking and Data Relay Satellite F (TDRS-F) spacecraft from the payload bay (PLB) at approximately 0.4 foot per second. The airborne support equipment (ASE) aft frame tilt actuator (AFTA) table, the forward frame cradle and the released umbilical boom appear below the IUS/TDRS spacecraft combination. Stowed on top of the IUS are TDRS-F's solar array panels, its single access antennas, and the SGL antenna. In the foreground is Diffuse X-ray Spectrometer (DXS) payload. On the left is the DXS starboard and the Hitchhiker avionics. On the right is the port DXS. The entire scene is backdropped against the Earth's limb and its blue and white surface.
