This Electronic Still Camera (ESC) image shows the Regenerative Carbon Dioxide Removal System (RCRS) onboard the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Columbia. The system shutdown at 10:45 p.m. (CDT), April 24, 1998, ringing a cautionary alert, thus delaying the crew's sleep period by several hours. Following successful in-flight maintenance (IFM), the Columbia's prime carbon dioxide cleansing system is in perfect working order, following the repair of a leaking check valve.
