Attired in a training version of the Shuttle launch and entry space suit, astronaut William F. Readdy awaits a session of bailout training at the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WET-F). The mission commander was joined in this exercise by astronauts Terrence W. Wilcutt, pilot, and Jerome (Jay) Apt, mission specialist, with the other crew members duplicating the training session earlier in the week. The exercises included a simulated drop from the Space Shuttle using its long escape pole, deployment of the raft and signaling for rescue help.
