An early model of the "Rogallo Wing" attached to a mock-up Mercury spacecraft is displayed in hanger at Langley Research Center. The Rogallo wing in the later flights of Gemini will replace the 63-foot ring sail parachute. This inflatable steerable device resembling a bat's wing has a wing spread of 45 feet. The astronaut will control the landings of this vehicle, utilizing a runner skid and two outriggers for stability. The landing will be horizontal.
